Shuffle Questions & Override Shuffle in Forms

FeatureOS gives you powerful control over how questions are displayed in your forms and surveys. By shuffling questions, you can minimize response bias, and with the override option, you can lock certain fields in place.

✅ What is Shuffle Questions?

When enabled, the order of your form questions is randomized for each respondent. This is especially useful in surveys and research forms where:

  • You want to avoid order bias (respondents favoring questions they see first).

  • Each participant should experience a different flow of questions.

  • Feedback quality improves when respondents don’t always see the same structure.

Example use case:
In a product survey, you have 10 feature-related questions. Shuffling ensures no single feature always appears at the top, giving you more balanced feedback.

⚙️ How to Enable Shuffle Questions

  1. Go to your form Settings inside the Form for which you want to enable the option.

  2. Toggle Shuffle Questions to ON.

  3. All questions (except locked ones) will be randomized for every respondent.

✅ What is Override Shuffle?

Sometimes, not every question should move around. Override Shuffle lets you lock specific fields so they always remain in their set position, even when shuffling is enabled.

Why this matters:

  • Certain fields like Name, Email, or Consent Checkboxes should always appear first or last.

  • Important guidance or mandatory context questions shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle.

⚙️ How to Use Override Shuffle

  1. In the Form Designer, click on the question field you want to lock.

  2. In the field configuration panel, toggle Override Shuffle ON.

  3. This field will remain in its fixed position, while others shuffle around it.

💡 Best Practices

  • Use Shuffle Questions for feedback, polls, or market research to reduce bias.

  • Always apply Override Shuffle to:

    • Introductory fields (Name, Email, Role)

    • Consent or agreement checkboxes

    • Critical guidance or context fields

  • Combine both features for a balance of fair data collection and structured responses.
